arts council support

Loves Cafe was really happy to receive a Grassroots Music Grant from Arts Council England earlier this year. Its our first award of this type after running music events at Loves for a decade. We are energised to have received this grant. Music never been a profit led arm of the business, but more about bringing great artists to our community and making music accessible to everyone, and this will help us in our vision.

Some of our grant is allocated to improving the venue’s music equipment for the high quality production we always strive to achieve, and also some streaming equipment, which we recently used to stream 3 amazing shows live from Loves which are available to view over on our YouTube channel

This is a “Female led” project, by Anna, who has been running the business since it started in 2009. Women are underrepresented in the music industry, and part of the project is to take on a female apprentice from Weston College Media Dept to work in house alongside other local industry experts.

Anna is inspired to use parts of the town that are sometimes overlooked and breath new life into them, an example of this is the “Loves Live on the Lawn” event she ran in august 2021 on the Old Putting Green, at the south end of the prom. This is one of the reason the next series of events “Sea Folk” which is being held next to the iconic Birnbeck Pier, and in support of The Birnbeck Regeneration Trust.

Anna was supported whilst going through the application process with Arts Council by Culture Weston. An Weston based organisation who are there to offer advise and support to anyone working in a creative capacity in the widest sense at any stage of their journey, email tom@cultureweston.org.uk or see their website.
